Clear out a kitchen cabinet for his junk food and don't open it, or keep your health food in there and stick to it. For sweet cravings, try fat-free hot cocoa or Jello, or frozen grapes. For salty or crunchy try Orville Redenbacher's Fat Free Kettle Corn. For cheesy try Laughing Cow wedges- these are all Weight Watchers low-points snacks that can get you through the munchies!

I'm always finding my roommate with fast food and junk food -- and that's great, he can do whatever he wants -- but it takes a lot to stay committed when I can smell the sweet aroma of that food I once used to love.
I don't like to think of it as a diet, but more a lifestyle change. And that's where the mind comes in. Healthy food doesn't have to taste nasty, I've learned. So it's not so much telling yourself the food tastes good, as much as it is saying that other food is bad for you. Knowing how bad junk food is, and understanding the harm it does, is enough motivation to stay away from it.

I empathize with you! My husband has done the same thing. Worse, if I had taken the time to prepare a healthy meal and it wasn't something he was interested in he would order out! Then the kids didn't want to eat what was prepared so it is like we were paying twice for the same meal.
These are some of the things that I have done that has helped us, I hope they help you.
I have encouraged him to look through recipes with me in order to find items that we are both interested in. He doesn't like to cook, hence the reason for all the junk food. So whatever we pick out has to be simple enough for him to prepare, universal enough everyone will eat it, healthy and budget friendly. I have noticed that if it is something he has picked out, he is not as likely to order out and will at least try it before he decides he doesn't like it.
I have also asked to take over the shopping. I work full time and I've explained to him that allowing me to shop is a buffer between the work day and home. I don't buy boxed mixes, chips, candies etc. If it's not at the house then *someone* needs to go purchase it. Occasionally, junk food still shows up, but not as often now. I do take the time to relax, and he enjoys the fact that I am relaxed when I come home. I like the fact that I know the quality of the ingrediants going into the meals, it's less expensive, and takes the same amount of time to prepare either way.
And lastly, I just had to sit him down and ask him not to. I tried to explain that it was very difficult for me to pass by on the ice cream, pies, cakes, pretzels and chips when they were always there in front of me. I asked him to support me and to help keep me "in line". I asked him to let me know when he noticed me eating junk. It seems like his being more conscience of me, made him more conscience of himself and he has really cut down on the junk.
These steps haven't completely resolved the problem, but they have made it much less noticeable. I hope this helps!!
Oh! And on the subject of weight loss...my husband, the man who hates anything that isn't deep friend or greasy adores vegetarian chili made with vegetarian crumbles, lasagna made with ground chicken or turkey and/or veggie crumbles, lowfat cheese and whole grain pasta noodles, egg beaters omelettes etc. cuz he doesn't know I'm sneaking them in as substitutes. I can even halve the amount of "meat" in my chili by adding extra beans (or refried beans if you have an eater who doesn't care for whole beans) but you want to up your fiber/protien content. My bad! But *we* are better because of it.
I would advise, going slow on the substitutes...ease your way into it by switching out 3/4 to 1/4, then half and half, 1/4 to 3/4 (the other way) and then all the way. Lastly, this year I've started cooking correct portion sizes. Man was it scary to realize how large my idea of a standard portion has become!

I ran into the same problem when i first started to change my diet. My family complained that i was being an annoying health freak. I persued my goal though. I had to buy different food and read nutrutional labels on everything in the house to understand what was really healthy and what wasn't. Sometimes it's hard to resist the tempation of junk food, but think of it this way: you reap what you sow. If you eat that bad food, you're that much further from your goal. Likewise, every good choice is beneficial to your overall health and can lengthen your life. A wise man once said,"Sow a thought and you reap an acion; sow an act and you reap a habit; sow a habit and you reap a character; sow a character and you reap a destiny." Your body is a temple to God. Treat that way.
